Description
The True Food Co-op is a lovely welcoming shop in Emmer Green, that also hosts regular shopping nights around the area.
It is a not for profit place that obtains organic fruit and vegetables, whole foods and eco friendly products at good prices. As much as possible is sourced locally.
You can scoop staples and exotic wholesome foods in as big or small quantities as you like, with many items sold by weight. There's also a huge range of packaged goods and treats, as well as a small amount of chilled and frozen produce, such as Clives Pies (some gluten-free), Redwood's Cheezly, vegan pizza, plus Booja-Booja and Tofutti dairy-free ice creams. Yum!
An extensive range of environmentally friendly household products is also available, from fair trade washing up gloves to organic cotton buds.
The True Food Co-op can also order in items on request, so don't be afraid to ask.
All that scooping and weighing, plus the Vege Bears and Ella Organics smoothies, makes it popular with your kids too.
It is mainly vegetarian with plenty for vegans, but there are a small number of fish and meat products.

"Great having an indoor evening market at Wesley Methodist Hall, Queen's Road, Reading - entrance is on Watlington Street down the hill from Royal Berks Hospital. Order vegan chilled/frozen goods for delivery to the market."

"True Food is a great idea but it's a real shame they've decided to start selling meat products. "

"Excellent range of veggie & vegan stuff at each event (plus catalogue of goods which they can order in for you, if you can't find what you want). Thanks to the TFC, I hardly shop at Tesco now, and feel a lot happier about where I'm spending my money! "

"This place is great. Lots of veggie/vegan friendly items, and their markup is very low so it's all really cheap. Plus you can recycle your old cartons and have a slice of vegan cake while you're there! "

"These guys just rock, big time. Great value, Great quality, Great people, you MUST make the effort to go to one of the venues near you, they are a unique community orientated project. Shop, chat, have a cup of tea and a slice of Jo's vegan banana cake if you are lucky. This is not just shopping it is much more. "
