A lovely country pub with a pretty garden.

The Unicorn has had an inconsistent history in respect of its vegetarian and vegan food, sometimes being great and other times uncompromising. But now things have changed for the better.

Under new managers Paul & Janie Knight, the menu pretty often has a vegan starter and main, such as cream of mushroom soup with soya milk, spinach & roasted vegetable filo torte with vegan cream cheese, or celery and cashew nut soup and cashew and roasted vegetable nut roast. The food is very much of a homemade style and we are getting very complimentary reports on it.

Soya milk is available for your drinks and the likes of vegan cheese is becoming more common.

These are early days for the new management on producing veggie food and dedicating effort and menu space to good vegan food is a gamble for them, so please give them a try and reward their efforts. The pub is surrounded by lovely walking and mountain biking country.

Janie, the new landlady and cook at The Unicorn says 'we have recently had a number of people coming to see us because of your write up - thank you. I have actually enjoyed the challenge of trying out new cooking of a variety of vegan/vegetarian dishes for our locals and visitors.'

We recommend, for the time being, you phone ahead to make sure you don't happen to turn up on the rare days there is no vegan main.
